Moving Abroad? Follow This Guide for a Seamless Move

RH Business Marketing Solutions

Moving abroad isn’t easy. In fact, having to could be one of the most stressful things that you ever do in your entire life. There are lots of different things that you need to think about and prepare for, in order to ensure that your move goes seamlessly.

However, despite how stressful moving to another country can be, it can also be very rewarding, and a great adventure. The more prepared you are for it, the less challenging it will be.

This post will offer some tips that will help you to ensure your move is seamless.

Removals Company

The first thing that you need to do if you intend on moving abroad is to find a removal company to work with. There are companies that specialize in moving to and from specific countries, i.e., companies that specialize in removals from the UK to United States of America (and vice versa). Take some time to do your research and find a company that’s right for you. Something else that you need to consider is the company’s level of experience, and most importantly, their reviews. A removal company’s reviews will give you insight into how they treat their customers.

One last thing that you need to think about is cost: what’s your budget? International moves aren’t cheap. If you are on a budget, you might have to take out a loan to finance part of your move. Some removal companies offer credit, too.

Confirm Dates

Once you have found a removal company, you then need to confirm the dates of your move with them. You also need to confirm the date of your move with the people who’re buying your house, so that they can prepare to move in.  Make sure that you are 100% certain about the dates before you confirm them with the removal company. If you give them incorrect dates, then they might not be available on the actual dates and won’t be able to help you. You might not get your money back if you have already paid, either.

Secure Packaging

When it comes to packing your belongings, make sure that everything is packed securely. Not packing your things safely can lead to them getting damaged during the move. The last thing you want to have to deal with when moving abroad is dealing with is having to replace your belongings, especially if they are important things, like your porcelain. Be sure to invest in bubble wrap, so that you can wrap anything that’s delicate in it. Also, buy foam bubbles to put inside boxes that have bubble-wrapped porcelain and glass in, for added protection.

Labeling Items

Bubble wrap and foam bubbles won’t be able to protect your things if the people handling them aren’t careful. The best way to ensure that the removal team you work with treats certain boxes with more care than others is to label ones containing delicates. Then, if the company does damage your belongings, there is no excuse. It is definitely worth taking out an insurance policy on your things before you move, just in case any damage does occur. An insurance policy will mean that you get financial compensation if you discover that your things have been broken during the move.

Switching Providers

If you are moving abroad, then you need to cancel all of your household bills and services (like Wi-Fi, gas, and electricity). This is so that they do not continue to charge you, despite you moving. You also need to phone ahead and make sure that you have all of your utilities and essentials set up for when you arrive at your new house. If you cannot call internationally, then send emails. Alternatively, you could send a loved one ahead to arrange everything before you get there. Doing everything in advance will mean that you are able to relax after you have finished unpacking, instead of having to worry about setting up your utilities and services.

Going Ahead

As mentioned in the previous section, it might be worth sending a loved one ahead to set everything up. You yourself might even want to go ahead. You do need to make sure that there’s somebody at your new house to let in the removal people when they arrive. Some people give removal companies keys to their houses so that they can get in on their own. If you can’t send anyone ahead, and you are comfortable with this, then it’s worth considering.

Moving internationally isn’t easy. If you plan on relocating, then take time to consider the points made here. Doing so will help you to ensure that your move is as stress-free as possible.
